Gnosis is a word of Greek origin and signifies an "inner knowing". The foundation of Gnostic Wisdom rests in Science, Philosophy, Art, and Mysticism or Religion.

There is Gnosis in Anthropology, the science that studies mankind; in Archeology, the science that studies human history revealed in the monuments of all cultures throughout history; in Psychology, the science of human behavior, the mind and the psyche (soul); in

Esotericism, the study of inner secret knowledge taught to all sincere aspirants who find it; in Esoteric/Occult Medicine, the science and study of human health and disease from a spiritual, multidimensional perspective; in Hermetic Astrology, the science that studies the relationship between human activities and the celestial bodies; in Physics, the science that studies the properties and activity of matter and energy, etc...

Gnosis has adopted different forms and names according to the time and place of manifestation. The sages of Egypt, Tibet, China, pre-Columbian America, Mexico, India, etc., cultivated and developed the Gnostic wisdom. In this regard, UNESCO declares the following: "Originally, it was thought that Gnosticism was only a deformation of Christianism, that is, that it originated with the primitive Christians and that it was essentially Christian. More recent studies have demonstrated that Gnosis had a broad diffusion and expansion much wider than originally thought with an origin extremely remote and much beyond Christianism..."

The library of ancient codices found at Nag Hammadi in Egypt confirms the fact that Gnosis appeared much earlier than Christianity. Venerable Master Samael Aun Weor, founder of the Institute of Gnostic Anthropology, member of the Sacred Order of Tibet and author of more than 60 esoteric literary jewels states the following:

"Gnosis is a word that means Knowing, Wisdom; it is the Wisdom, the Sophia, what we need and will not find outside ourselves, but within... There is Gnosis in the Buddhist Doctrine, in the Tantric Buddhism of Tibet, in the Zen Buddhism of Japan, in the Ch'an Buddhism of China, in the Sufi tradition, in the Dancing Dervishes, in the Egyptian, Chaldean, Pythagorean, Greek, Aztec, Mayan, Incan Wisdom, etc. If we study carefully the Christian Gospels, we will see in them Pythagorean mathematics, Chaldean and Babylonian parables and the formidable Buddhist ethics."
